“I want to live a life story that I want to read.”
Hi đź‘‹,
For a long time, I’ve wrestled with calling myself a writer, often feeling like an imposter. My career has been rooted in tech, and before that, in finance. Sharing that I hold a degree in Creative Writing has always felt awkward, as if it’s something I should hide rather than celebrate.
In college, I was transfixed by The Beat Poets, especially the romanticism around their counter-culture lifestyles and writings. Just like Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, I wanted to find myself by following my “inner moonlight”. I was possessed by an insatiable impulse to learn about ancient philosophies and traditions, but more importantly, to feel and understand how other people experienced the world.
“Writing is the painting of the voice.” ~Voltaire
After two decades of traveling the world and connecting with a diverse cross-section of people, I now feel it is time to start mastering the skills necessary to connect with people through the written word. As my wanderlust wanes, my internal desire to express and share outweighs my external drive to explore.
“To gain your own voice, you have to forget about having it heard.” ~Allen Ginsberg
The greatest obstacle I face is, of course, myself. In this new written world, I feel unmoored, with no identity, no voice, no connection, no ability to control or, more truthfully, manipulate how I am perceived by an invisible other. But just as I have done in other new endeavors, I will throw myself into the deep end, find a community with experts, seek out good models to learn from, humbly ask for help and most important put myself out there. I still don’t know what I will write about, genre, style, etc.—but I do know I am interested in what lies at the cross section of technology and human connection, love.
“When we share our stories, what it does is, it opens up our hearts for other people to share their stories.” ~Brené Brown
This site is a repository for the genesis of me as a writer. Thank you, invisible other, for showing up on this journey I am about to embark on with a heart wide open ❤️
